From natural power to scientific control


In literature, several solvents to extract propolis’ compounds are reported: water, absolute ethanol, ethanol-water mixtures (80, 90, and 96%), glycerol, methanol, hexane, acetone, DMSO and chloroform… However, none of them is able alone to obtain an extract with all the most important active compounds and moreover not all of them are considered food grade. The classic method of working with propolis is the extraction through 80° alcohol, which extracts 75-80% of the polyphenols, together with uninteresting resins too.

B Natural has won the challenge of developing a new extraction method able to preserve the total of active molecules present in raw propolis: the Dynamic Multi Extraction patented method (M.E.D.).

Propolis M.E.D.® extracts are pure from inactive resins and rich in polyphenols.


Polyphenols are a family of about 5000 molecules widely present in the plant world. Amongst Polyphenols, there are “sub-families” which differ from each other because of the number and characteristics of the phenolic units. These structures have an influence on the chemical and physical properties amongst which solubility.
Standard method of extraction of Polyphenols from Propolis involve the use of a single solvent. The result is a partial extraction.

The Dynamic Multi Extraction (M.E.D.) technology uses various concentrations of solvent during the whole production process thus extracting Polyphenols with different solubility and especially avonoids, phenolic acids and glycosilated fractions.
